Activities marking the 4th Convocation of Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu begin on Sunday, the 19th of this month with a Holy Mass.

In today’s spotlight, Godwin Umeh of our News and Current Affairs Unit writes on the importance of prayer in every human activity.

It is recorded in the Holy Bible that our Lord Jesus Christ started his work while on earth with prayers and ended with payers.

For us normal human beings, the importance of prayer, which also includes worships and thanksgiving to God is paramount in all activities.

This is more important in organisations with the primary duty of character molding and training of the youths.

Closer relationship with God in such establishment will not only make the youths realize the need to remain steadfast in God but also stay away from acts that contradict the commandments of God.

Perhaps, it was in recognition of this that the management of Godfrey Okoye University places emphasis on religious worship and prayers in the daily activities of the staff and students of the institution.

It is a known fact that the staff and students begin each day with a Holy Mass, observe a special prayer session at noon each day as well as close the day with prayers.

Second Sunday of each month is observed as Godfrey Okoye University Community service. It is a day specially dedicated to joint Holy Mass for staff and students of different denominations.

Similarly, each semester and session of the university begins with Holy Mass and prayers, the same at the end of the semester or session.

This is why the decision of the management to begin its convocation activities with a Holy Mass is commendable.

This year’s Convocation opening Holy Mass will take place on the 19th of February, 2017 and is scheduled to hold at the Omnium Sanctorum Chaplaincy, Thinkers Corner, Enugu, beginning at 10am.

The Chief Celebrant will be the Vice Chancellor of the University, Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke.

The various priests serving in the university, the Godfrey Okoye Group of institutions and other religious are expected to participate in the Holy Mass.

It is expected that the staff and students would use the event to thank God for his guidance since the past convocation and pray for the successful hosting of the 4th Convocation.

Another Holy Mass will equally be held at the end of the Convocation, precisely, on the 26th of February, 2017 to thank God for the success of the event.

The university’s emphasis on prayers and faith in God has served as tonic in the achievement of the objectives of the institution.

This policy of the authorities of Godfrey Okoye University has not only helped to bring the staff and students closer to God but has promoted decorum and good behavior among the people.

It has equally facilitated the orientation and reorientation of the people on the path of patriotism, Godly spirit and commitment to duty.

The school will equally use the event to showcase its rich religious background and facilities available for moral training of the youths.
